How to Shrink Hemorrhoids
Introduction
Hemorrhoids can cause rectal bleeding, itching, discomfort, and sometimes even severe pain. But in many cases you can make your hemorrhoids shrink using these 4 simple tips.
1. No toilet paper
Dry toilet paper can irritate inflamed hemorrhoids. Use moistened wipes, such as baby wipes, Tucks, or other cleansing cloths. These cloths will offer a gentler wipe. Use a bidet to cleanse your anal area after a bowel movement.
2. Cold sessions
Make your hemorrhoids shrink by applying ice to the anal area. Try to do it several times a day taking short sessions (5-10 minutes each). Put the ice in a disposable plastic bag. The effect of cold temperature is to reduce the hemorrhoids’ swelling, thereby shrinking them.
3. Warm sessions
According to the Mayo Clinic if you take this step after your cold session it will help to make your hemorrhoids shrink and relieve pain.
Apply warm compresses (like warm, damp towels) to the area.
4. Bath and bed
Fill your bathtub with just enough warm water to reach your hemorrhoids when you sit down. Soak for 15 minutes and go to bed(take 2 or 3 sessions daily). This helps your hemorrhoids shrink because it takes pressure off your swollen veins that can be aggravated when you sit or stand.
Other alternatives
There are many over-the-counter remedies that can help shrink your hemorrhoids, such as Preparation H, Tucks (witch hazel) pads, and suppositories. All contain ingredients to help reduce itching and inflammation associated with hemorrhoids. But you shouldn’t use them for extended periods. Allways ask your doctor.
